Dr. Scott enjoys sushi

A Japanese colleague took me to a sushi restaurant, and I enjoyed it.

Since I started spending Saturday evenings with Dr. Russia, I have diversified my palate to include more exotic foods such as shark and raw tuna. Together, we are slowly exploring the famous Jagalchi fish market for uniquely Asian/Korean fish and crustaceans. Unfortunately, we have not found many quality seafood options in our city of Ulsan. To our surprise, one of our colleagues, which I will call Dr. Japan, claimed that they found a pretty authentic Japanese Sushi place that we should try together.
To be more specific, the restaurant was called Seusibaharu and was located in the Nam-gu region of Ulsan. This is roughly a 20 minute taxi ride from our work, which was initially concerning to both Dr. Russia and I. The available dinner reservations were from 6:00 - 7:40 pm and 8:00 - 9:40 pm, and we chose the later availability so we could feel better about drinking alcohol.
The inside of the restaurant was about the size of my apartment, with a single bar and 12 available seats. One younger sushi chef seated us, provided us green tea, and took drink orders, while two older sushi chefs started making rice balls and masterfully cutting fish. The three of us started off with a Japanese draft beer Yebisu, but quickly transitioned to sweet sake.

The chef closest to us could speak some English and Japanese, and told us that he would explain each sushi fish as we ate them. In short, the chef told us about the fish, then I ate my piece followed by a shot of sake. The full list of sushi and fish options are provided below. Enjoy.

Things are pretty slow these days because of COVID19. I'm spending a lot of my free time walking through mountain trails and takings pictures of trees and flowers, but nothing worth blogging about every week.
I'll try to update some of the website to include more information with the pictures. Follow ag4abroad on Instagram, Steller, and Flickr for updates.
Hey Dr. Scott- I enjoyed reading your blog on shushi. Looks a lot different from American Shushi but I'd love to try it. Thanks Kris Krihak
