Heavenly Rock Temple of Busan (선암사)

Seonamsa is a Buddhist temple located on the other side of Mt Baekyang from Samgwangsa. If you're feeling adventurous, there's a mountain trail directly connecting the two temples. If you travel to Seonamsa by public transportation, you will have to walk through a residential area. Once you pass by several schools, the sounds of the city are replaced by a flowing stream and a secluded forest. At the end of the paved path is a narrow staircase ascending directly to the Main hall. There are actually two more levels of temple grounds containing additional smaller halls and shrines.

I couldn't find that much information about the history of Seonamsa. Given the smaller size of the temple, I assume that it simply doesn't have as much as the other temples of Busan. However, Seonamsa was the first temple where I was able to view an actual prayer session lead by a monk.

If you're making the journey to see Samgwangsa, there's no reason not to stop by Seonamsa. The smaller size and overall seclusion makes it more likely you'll be able to get all the shots you want.

Check out some of my personal photos below. Enjoy!
